Decision-Making Made Easy
Do you or your teen often find yourselves at crossroads, struggling to make those pivotal decisions about the future?
The burden of choice can feel overwhelming, especially when indecision takes over.
The truth is all of our power comes from making decisions.
Our brains thrive on planning and predictions. So when a decision remains unmade, it drains our energy.
We've all tried the classic pros and cons list, but have you ever noticed that it doesn't always clarify the choice? That's because not all reasons are created equal.
Did you know there's an easier way to make decisions?
Rather than basing our decision on how many reasons are on the pros side verses the cons side, we make far better decisions when we take a step back and consider our values.
In other words, which reasons do we like more?
Which VALUES are most important to you? And which choice aligns best with those values?
Maybe your teen is trying to make a decision of which college to attend. Rather than focusing solely on the price of tuition and the proximity to home, it's important to consider what your teen values most about his education.
Does he value academic rigor or free time to explore his hobbies?
Does he value coming home on the weekends or full immersion in the college environment?
Does he value frugality or graduating from a prestigious school?
Value-based decisions cut through all the confusion and make the choice clear.
It's also important to remember that, in the end, whatever we choose will end up being both challenging AND amazing. If we choose College A over College B, some things will be easier and some things will be harder.
But if you go back to your values, you'll still know you made the "right" choice.
And what if there's actually no such thing as the "right" choice? It's all subjective and we can make any decision right.
My high school coach used to say, "Make a decision and MAKE it the right decision."
In other words, make a decision and keep moving forward. Don't live in regret. Make the decision WORK FOR YOU by committing to it fully.
So....go make some decisions!
