Happy New Year and Letter to My Present Self

Happy New Year and Letter to My Present Self

January 01, 20253 min read

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! 2025 is here! I hope you have an amazing day enjoying your family.

Last week, I made a claim that your relationship with yourself is your most important relationship. Do you agree or disagree?

On Christmas day, I shared my letter to my past self. Did you take my challenge and write one to your past self? What came up for you? What did you need to hear? How did it make you feel?

More than anything else, your past self needs your forgiveness and your gratitude. So, if you haven't had a chance, write that letter, especially if you're needing some extra forgiveness or gratitude. Incidentally, when we give ourselves those things, we need them less from others.

Regardless of how you feel about 2024, that year is in the past so let it go.

Today, I wanted to take some time to focus on the present. Your present self needs your presence (you see what I did there). But, really. We spend too much of our life stuck in the past or stressing about the future.

Eckhart Tolle wisely taught, "Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the NOW the primary focus of your life" and "Wherever you are, be there totally."

This is such a good reminder, especially for people like me who think multi-tasking is their middle name. Multi-tasking typically results in doing two things poorly, simultaneously.

Without further ado, here's my letter to my present self.

Dear Present Julia,

What do you need RIGHT NOW? What are you feeling? I want to hear all about it.

I'm going to be better at sitting with you and validating you completely. I know you have valid reasons for everything you think, feel, and do, Even if you're wrong, I know that you come to your senses more quickly when I let you feel all you need to feel in the moment.

I'm going to help you become more confident at processing emotions. Emotions are nothing to be afraid of. I'm going to love you through your tough moments and all your bad hair days.

What goals do you have this year? If you knew you couldn't fail, what possibilities would you consider reaching for? How will you feel when you accomplish those things? Let those emotions be your fuel for today.

What concerns do you have and how do you plan to do about them? You have so much inner wisdom that you fail to tap into because you are too busy looking outside yourself for answers.

No one actually knows how to help your child, overcome your financial dilemma, and repair that relationship (the one that keeps you up at night) as well as you do.

I promise to be better at listening to your insight and wisdom. So, don't be afraid to speak up.

When challenges come your way this year, and they will, remember to take lots of deep breaths, move your body, and eat food that makes you feel amazing. Spend time with people who love you as you are, but inspire you to be better.

And when you're with those people, be TOTALLY there.

Nothing is more important than the present moment.

That's where all your power and influence lies.

I wish you all the best this coming year. I can't wait to see all the incredible things you accomplish and the amazing things you learn.

And thank you for all you did today. And every day. You're doing great!

Love,

Julia

Again, I challenge each of you to write a brief letter to your present self. Because your present self needs your validation and complete attention, this letter can help you feel grounded and seen.

Your present self needs to hear from you. So, after you take some deep breaths and plant your feet firmly on the floor, go write that letter!

Have an incredible New Year!
