Jealousy or Inspiration
Is it just me, or did it feel like everyone was on vacation all summer? One week they’re in Italy, the next they’re hiking in Peru!
And because I love to travel, seeing people post about their trips sometimes sends my brain into a spin. It offers up thoughts like:
"Why does everyone else get to go on vacation? There's only so many vacations to go around!"
Sounds ridiculous when I say it out loud—but our brains do this all the time.
We see people enjoying something we want, and instead of feeling happy for them, we feel....jealous.
Maybe for you, it’s not vacations. Maybe it’s:
Families who seem really close
Teens who get good grades
Young adults who are successful
People with strong marriages, beautiful homes, or amazing musical talent
Someone who just seems to "have it all together"
Your brain might tell you:
"If they have it, it's less likely for me."
But is that really true?
That’s a scarcity mindset—the belief that there’s only so much love, success, money, joy, or health to go around. Like life is one big pie, and every slice someone else gets means less for you.
Here’s the truth:
Scarcity is a lie!
Jealousy makes us feel lousy (literally—the word lousy is the last part of jealousy! I just noticed that today!).
But guess what emotion is right next to jealousy?
Inspiration!
What if, instead of letting jealousy drag you down, you let someone else’s success spark your own?
You get inspired, remembering that this life is full of abundance.
Abundance says:
"If I deeply desire something, maybe that desire is showing me what I’m capable of creating."
When we see others achieving things we want, it’s proof that it’s possible. That it's already happening in the world. That it's available to us, too.
So, the next time jealousy pops up, pause.
Ask yourself:
"What is my brain telling me I can’t have?"
Then shift toward INSPIRATION. Choose to believe that your dream is possible—and that someone else’s win might just be the proof.
Let your friends and family inspire you.
Be happy with them—and hopeful for yourself.
You’ve got this.
