Reprogramming Our Subconscious Mind

Reprogramming Our Subconscious Mind

Did you know that your subconscious mind is basically running your whole life?

In fact, it is estimated that 80-90% of your thoughts, feelings and actions are just a result of subconscious programming.

Your subconscious mind filters your world through lenses crafted from your past experiences, upbringing, culture, and everything you've encountered. These subconscious beliefs largely influence your decisions, thoughts, feelings, and actions/reactions.

Just like a soundtrack playing in the background, you are moving through life (dancing) to the beat of the music of your subconscious mind.

Most animals act/react based on survival and instinct. But unlike other species, humans possess a prefrontal cortex, enabling meta-cognition—the ability to observe and intentionally choose our thoughts.

This means that through intention, we can reprogram our subconscious mind. We don't have to stick to the same soundtrack for life; we can swap out any beliefs that no longer serves us.

Why is this important?

Reprogramming your subconscious mind empowers you to make conscious choices and create a life aligned with your true desires.

So, how do we reprogram your subconscious mind?

One belief at a time.

Step 1: Embrace Curiosity Over Judgment
Avoid self-judgment, which leads to shame and hides subconscious beliefs. Instead, approach your observed thoughts and beliefs with curiosity and compassion. This allows you to access and observe them and the results they create.

Step 2: Identify Thought Errors
Recognize thoughts that your brain perceives as facts. Thoughts are neither true nor untrue. Notice black or white thinking, "should," catastrophizing, etc. Questioning faulty thoughts is an essential step in creating new outcomes in your life.

Step 3: Release Old Beliefs
Let go of thoughts that aren't serving you, similar to how you would throw away old CDs you no longer want to dance to. This process can be uncomfortable because it requires you create new thought patterns in your brain.

Step 4: Introduce Believable Thoughts
Replace old thoughts with thoughts you can genuinely embrace. Sometimes, this requires a ladder or bridge thought to transition smoothly. For example, you may not be able to go straight from "school is boring" to "school is amazing!" A possible bridge is, "It might be possible to enjoy school."

Step 5: Practice Repetition and Emotion
Subconscious beliefs are reprogrammed through repetition, especially when accompanied by the emotions associated with the new belief. Consistently reinforce new beliefs and immerse yourself in the emotions and results they generate.

By following these steps, you can reprogram your subconscious mind and create a life that truly reflects your aspirations.
